How does AI lip reading work?

Just upload a video and let the automated program do the work! Advanced AI and machine learning algorithms analyze lip movements in videos. This technology processes the visual information frame by frame, interpreting the shapes and movements of the speaker's mouth to generate accurate text transcriptions of the spoken words. The process takes between a few seconds for a very short and low resolution video to a few minutes for longer videos with a high resolution. But Replicate computers can sometimes take a few minutes before starting to process the video. Important note: Make sure your video only includes one person's face, otherwise the program will not work properly. If your video contains more than one person's face you will need to crop it first. How precisely does it read lips?

It can read lips quite precisely, but accuracy is heavily dependent on the quality of the video and how visible the lips are. This technology has shown accuracy rates of up to 95% in environments with clear video quality, ample lighting and speakers close to the camera. What video file formats do you support?

Accepted Answer

The program currently supports MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM video files. You can upload videos on Replicate from any device whether you're on desktop, Android, or iPhone. But videos need to be ranging from 2 seconds to 40 seconds in length. For optimal results, ensure that the speaker's face and mouth are clearly visible in the video. If you have videos in other formats, you will need to convert them before uploading. Important note: Make sure your video only includes one person's face, otherwise our program will not work properly. If your video contains more than one person's face you will need to crop it first.

What makes a good quality video for an accurate result?

For the best results, it's better your videos meet the following criteria: - The speaker's face should be well-lit and clearly visible - Both Frontal and profile view of the speaker's face work. But for a profile view, half of the lips should be visible at minimum. - Ideally, record in good lighting conditions - Avoid videos where the speaker's mouth is obscured (by masks, hands, or objects) - The closer the camera is to the speaker's face, the better (while keeping the full face in frame) - Only one person's face should be visible at the same time. This last criterion is mandatory. These conditions will significantly improve the accuracy of the transcription.

What are the costs for using the lip reading service?

The service is provided through Replicate's platform, which uses a pay-as-you-go pricing model. You pay for Replicate computers to process your video with the AI. The exact cost depends on the length and quality of your video.
